Brian Le Sar is the Chief Executive Officer of the National Payments System Institute. He is an experienced banker with executive management experience in public-and private-sector banking, having particular specialties in payments, product, and channel management across the value chain, as well as policy, regulatory, and strategy issues arising in the design and application of new technology, business models, and architecture to retail financial services in emerging markets. Brian is also experienced in management consulting and in the design, setup, and management of payments- and card-related businesses across the African continent. Brian has authored several journal articles on payments in Payments Strategy and has a BComm Hons (UNISA) and an MBA (Wits).
Johann Bezuidenhoudt was an executive at Africa’s largest telco group for 9 years. Thereafter Johann has consulted widely around the world on mobile payments. He has lead written on managing the risk of mobile payments and has led audits of mobile payment service providers in Nigeria in 2011 to 2014.
Julie Zollmann is a Senior Associate at Bankable Frontier Associate, within the demand side practice where she leads research on the users of financial services. Her projects have worked to understand consumer responses to electronic government transfer payments, preferences in savings devices, financial capability in the context of branchless banking, and merchant adoption of electronic payments. Julie also manages the Kenya Financial Diaries, a multi-year investigation into the financial lives of low-income Kenyans.
